Tangalooma Beach lies on either side of the main island settlement and entry point. The 8km long, west facing beach curves gently between the southern Tangalooma Point, past the 1km long settlement with its two jetties, up to Cowan Cowan Point, site of the main island airstrip. Much of the beach is backed by a 50 to 100m high, vegetated dune escarpment, with Tangalooma lying at the base of the dunes. The beach consists of a narrow high tide beach, fronted by 100m wide sand flats, then for much of its length a deep channel called the Tangalooma Road. Two jetties cross the sand flats to reach the channel.
