Beach commences just to the south of another beach and trends relatively straight to the south-southwest for 4.8 km to the northern base of Mount Saunders. The beach is backed by 100-300 m of generally vegetated dunes, that have climbed 20-30 m up the backing slopes, which continue to rise to 288 m high Barnett Hill. Today most dunes are stable and a low grassy foredune and occasional coconut tree back the beach. The beach is well exposed to the southeast trades, but afforded some protection from the higher waves by the large Boulder and Egret reefs located 17 km offshore. The result is a wide, low gradient, intertidal beach, and low tide bar cut by up to 40 rips spaced every 100 m.
Beach Length: 4.8km
General Hazard Rating: 3/10
