At Jumpinpin Inlet, the beach (1589) is impacted by the tidal channel and extensive shoals that extend up to 2km off the inlet. The beach swings around to south-east, then south, facing across the 300m wide inlet to South Stradbroke Island. The inlet shoals protect the beach from most ocean waves, and wave height decreases into the inlet. As a consequence, the inlet beach is usually narrow and steep, fronted by deep water of the inlet, with waves breaking offshore on the tidal shoals.
Beach Length: 1km
General Hazard Rating: 2/10
