There are three main settlements along the beach at Sunshine Beach, Peregian Beach and the larger Coolum Beach. Sunshine Beach (1539A) is primarily a holiday and residential area, that extends for 3 km along the beach. It has the newest surf lifesaving club, established in 1982, reflecting the newness of the development. The club is located in a grassy, bluff-top beach reserve 1.5 km south of Lion Rock. Steps and a ramp lead down to the patrolled beach.
